Louisiana Tech (1-0) at No. 8 LSU (1-0) — Game Preview

Louisiana Tech (1-0) travels to Tiger Stadium to face No. 8 LSU (1-0) on September 12, 2026, with both programs unbeaten a week into the season. It’s a nonconference test for the Bulldogs against one of the SEC’s ranked contenders, and a road trip to Baton Rouge gives Louisiana Tech an early measuring-stick opportunity.

LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt opened his year by completing 16 of 27 passes for 230 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Blake Baker answered for Louisiana Tech, going 10 of 14 for 232 yards and 3 touchdowns to keep the Bulldogs unbeaten. Winston Watkins Jr. gives LSU a proven target after catching 7 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown in the opener, while Trey Kukuk adds a rushing dimension for Louisiana Tech after piling up 50 yards on just 5 carries.

Both defenses already have a sack to their name, with Princewill Umanmielen recording 2 for LSU and Jacob Bradford adding 1 for the Bulldogs.

Players to Watch: Louisiana Tech vs. LSU

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs

Blake Baker — QB. The Bulldogs’ signal caller was nearly perfect in his season opener, completing 10 of 14 passes for 232 yards and 3 touchdowns. That kind of efficiency travels well, and Louisiana Tech will need another sharp outing from Baker to keep pace with a ranked SEC defense.

Five carries produced 50 yards for Trey Kukuk, a rushing burst that gives Louisiana Tech a change-of-pace weapon alongside Baker’s arm. If the Bulldogs can string together a few more chunk runs like that, they stay competitive on the road.

Up front for the Louisiana Tech defense is Jacob Bradford, who already has a sack on the season. Getting after LSU’s passing game starts with the pressure Bradford and the defensive line can generate at Tiger Stadium.

LSU Tigers

Behind center for No. 8 LSU is Sam Leavitt, who threw for 230 yards and a touchdown on 16 of 27 passing in the opener, though an interception is worth cleaning up. His command of the offense carries extra weight at home in front of the Tiger Stadium crowd.

Winston Watkins Jr. hauled in 7 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown to open the season, giving LSU a downfield threat Leavitt can lean on. Another big afternoon from Watkins would make Louisiana Tech’s secondary work all night.

On defense, Princewill Umanmielen notched 2 sacks in his first outing and gives LSU an edge presence capable of disrupting Blake Baker’s rhythm. A similar performance would go a long way toward limiting the Bulldogs’ passing attack.
