Kennesaw State (1-1) at No. 15 Tennessee (2-0) — Game Preview
Kennesaw State comes in at 1-1 to face No. 15 Tennessee, which sits at 2-0, at Neyland Stadium on September 19, 2026. The trip gives the Volunteers a non-conference tune-up before SEC play intensifies, with Tennessee looking to protect its unbeaten start in front of the Neyland Stadium crowd.
Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon has completed 23 of 38 passes for 374 yards and 5 touchdowns, an efficient clip that has powered the Volunteers’ 2-0 start. Kennesaw State counters with Rickie Collins, who has thrown for 431 yards and 2 touchdowns on 40-of-58 passing through two games, though his 1 interception suggests the Owls will need cleaner ball security to keep pace with the SEC’s No. 15 team. On the ground, Tennessee running back DeSean Bishop has carried 34 times for 244 yards and 3 touchdowns, giving the Volunteers a physical complement to Brandon through the air.
Kennesaw State running back Latrelle Murrell has found the end zone twice himself, rushing for 100 yards on 12 carries, while defensive lineman Ugonna Nwoha has recorded a sack to anchor the Owls’ front. Tennessee’s Xavier Gilliam has been busier off the edge with 3 sacks already this season, a number the Owls’ offensive line will need to account for on September 19.

Players to Watch: Kennesaw State vs. Tennessee
Kennesaw State
Rickie Collins — QB. Collins has completed 40 of 58 attempts for 431 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception through Kennesaw State’s first two games. His arm has kept the Owls competitive, and containing him is the first task facing Tennessee’s defense on September 19.
Latrelle Murrell — RB. Twelve carries have produced 100 yards and 2 touchdowns for Murrell, a workload that signals the Owls want to establish balance rather than lean entirely on Collins. Tennessee’s front will look to slow him down early and force Kennesaw State into obvious passing situations.
Ugonna Nwoha — DL. A sack already on his ledger, Nwoha gives Kennesaw State a pass-rush threat even as the Owls head into a hostile Neyland Stadium against a ranked SEC opponent. Disrupting Faizon Brandon’s rhythm would go a long way toward keeping this game within reach.
Tennessee
Faizon Brandon — QB. Brandon has thrown for 374 yards and 5 touchdowns on 23-of-38 passing to help Tennessee open 2-0, a touchdown rate that has made the Volunteers’ offense difficult to slow down. No. 15 Tennessee will lean on his efficiency again as it looks to stay unbeaten at Neyland Stadium.
DeSean Bishop — RB. Thirty-four carries have gone for 244 yards and 3 touchdowns for Bishop, giving Tennessee a downhill complement to Brandon’s passing attack. His workload suggests the Volunteers will try to control the clock at Neyland Stadium rather than turn this into a shootout.
Xavier Gilliam — DL. Gilliam already has 3 sacks on the season, the kind of edge pressure that could make life difficult for Collins all night. If Tennessee’s defensive line dictates the pocket the way Gilliam has so far, Kennesaw State’s passing attack will have a hard time keeping pace.
