Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings — Game Preview

Green Bay opens the 2026 season on the road against Minnesota at U.S. Bank Stadium, a Week 1 matchup with no record on either side yet to shape expectations. A year ago Green Bay ran one of the league’s more efficient third-down offenses at 48.8% while Minnesota converted just 31.8% of its chances, a split that could tilt the field-position battle from the opening series.

Jordan Love threw for 3,381 yards and 23 touchdowns against only 6 interceptions last season, numbers that produced a 101.2 rating and a 66.3% completion mark. Across the field, J.J. McCarthy carries a questionable designation with an ankle issue heading into the opener, and last season’s line, 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for a 72.6 rating, shows a Vikings passing game still finding consistency.

Green Bay’s Christian Watson gives Love a downfield answer after catching 35 passes for 611 yards and 6 touchdowns a season ago, a 17.5 yards-per-catch average, while Minnesota counters with Justin Jefferson, who hauled in 84 receptions for 1,048 yards. Up front, Vikings linebacker Dallas Turner piled up 8.0 sacks and 11 tackles for loss last season, and he projects as the edge presence tasked with disrupting Green Bay’s line all afternoon.

Players to Watch: Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings

Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love — QB. Love enters the season fresh off a 2025 campaign that produced 3,381 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions. His 101.2 passer rating and 66.3% completion rate point to a quarterback who has become more decisive with the ball, and Green Bay will lean on that command right away in Minneapolis.

Christian Watson — WR. Watson turned 35 catches into 611 yards and 6 touchdowns last season, a 17.5 yards-per-reception average that made him one of Green Bay’s most explosive downfield options. He gives Love a big-play threat whenever the Packers need to flip field position in a hurry.

Devonte Wyatt — DT. Six tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks made Wyatt a disruptive force on Green Bay’s interior defensive line a season ago, to go with 27 total tackles. He projects as the player tasked with collapsing the pocket on McCarthy throughout the opener.

Minnesota Vikings

J.J. McCarthy — QB. McCarthy carries a questionable designation for Sunday’s opener with an ankle issue, but he remains behind center for Minnesota after a first extended season that saw him throw for 1,632 yards and 11 touchdowns. His 72.6 rating and 57.6% completion mark, along with 12 interceptions a season ago, point to a young passer still building consistency.

Justin Jefferson — WR. Jefferson caught 84 passes for 1,048 yards last season, the focal point of Minnesota’s passing game regardless of who lines up at quarterback. His 12.5 yards-per-catch average reflects a mix of heavy targets and after-the-catch production that keeps defenses honest on every snap.

Dallas Turner — LB. Minnesota’s pass rush ran through Turner a season ago, when he recorded 8.0 sacks, 11 tackles for loss and 66 total tackles. He gives the Vikings defense a proven edge presence to set the tone against Green Bay’s offensive line in Week 1.
