Fans of rodeo, reining, roping and the Western way of life are about to get even more reasons to saddle up with DIRECTV.
Starting May 18, DIRECTV will add Teton Ridge’s The Cowboy Channel to the MySports Extra™ mini-pack, bringing customers closer to the action just days before one of the biggest events in rodeo: The American Rodeo at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Because when it comes to sports fandom, not every arena has hardwood floors or goalposts. Some have dirt, chutes and eight very important seconds.
A Big Addition for Western Sports Fans
Known as “The Official Network of Pro Rodeo,” The Cowboy Channel is the premier 24-hour television network dedicated entirely to Western sports and the Western lifestyle.
Headquartered in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards and owned by Teton Ridge, the network serves as the official broadcast partner of ProRodeo and delivers year-round coverage of the sport’s biggest moments, personalities and traditions.
DIRECTV originally launched The Cowboy Channel in December 2017 across select packages, and now the network is riding into MySports Extra as part of the continued expansion of DIRECTV’s sports offerings.
What Is MySports® Genre Pack and MySports Extra?
MySports Genre Pack is DIRECTV’s sports-focused package designed for fans who want access to live games, analysis, highlights and league coverage across a broad range of sports. For customers looking to expand that lineup even further, MySports Extra is available exclusively as an add-on to the MySports Genre Pack.
Priced at $12.99 per month, the mini-pack includes additional specialty sports and fan-favorite channels such as:
- NFL RedZone
- MLB Strike Zone
- Willow TV
- And now, The Cowboy Channel
Perfect Timing: Just Ahead of The American Rodeo
The Cowboy Channel addition arrives only four days before Championship Weekend at The American Rodeo, taking place May 22–23 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious and highest-paying rodeo events in the world, The American Rodeo features a $3 million purse and serves as the culmination of a nationwide qualification system that brings together top athletes from across the country.
Fans can catch elite competition across multiple disciplines, including:
- Bull riding
- Barrel racing
- Saddle bronc riding
- Team roping
- Steer wrestling
- Breakaway roping
- Tie-down roping
For rodeo fans, it’s the equivalent of playoff season, but with more cowboy hats and considerably more horsepower.
