Daughters Courageous

After years of roaming, Jim Masters (Claude Rains) returns home to his wife, Nan (Fay Bainter), and their four daughters, Buff, Tinka, Cora and Linda, disrupting Nan's plans to marry warmhearted Sam Sloan. The girls are initially suspicious and cool toward their father. But when Buff begins dating the wayward Gabriel Lopez (John Garfield), and Nan disapproves, Jim sides with Buff, winning her appreciation. Things come to a head, however, when Jim announces his intention to fight for Nan.
