INWONDER

The most spectacular senses help animals rule their environment; the champions of the animal world reveal their special weapons and abilities.

Super Senses

The Most Amazing Senses

Animals that live underground have developed keen senses to find their way around; wombats have excellent hearing to compensate for their very small eyes; the mole is almost completely blind, but uses its nose to get along.

Earth

Animals use all of their senses to communicate, to attract partners, discourage predators, and deceive their prey; they send messages without needing words.

Communication

Some animals have crazy looking sense organs, but every feature has a special purpose that has evolved to ensure the survival of the animal.

Some animals have adapted perfectly to the darkness and can avoid dangers; owls can hear soft sounds from far away; bats orient themselves using echolocation.

Night

The sea hosts an enormous quantity of species of fish, mammals, and crustaceans that have unique mechanisms to withstand pressure, low temperatures, and total darkness of the seabed.

Underwater

Living beings have an internal biological clock, modeled on the famous circadian rhythm of night and day and running over a period of 24 hours; this rhythm is particularly evident in the cicada, lizards, bears and Arctic ground squirrels.

Sense of Timing

Certain animals have some crazy looking sense organs; every feature has a special purpose that has evolved to ensure the survival of the animal.

Superhuman Senses

Animals have sense organs with which they can recognize electromagnetic fields; they can feel when an earthquake is approaching and sharks can track their prey.

Sixth Sense

Animals, like humans, depend on their sense of touch in various situations, like bears in Alaska tracking down salmon and crocodiles knowing when their prey is approaching.

Touch

Examining how things taste, and how vital scent is from the animal perspective; an animal's sense of smell will also detect the scent of odorants carried through the air.

Smell & Taste

Many animals need a strong sense of sight to capture their prey; cats can see at night and birds of prey can catch their quarry from immense heights.
