Foon is headed to a community for the elderly in China, accompanied by her granddaughter. As Foon begins to recall her past, she thinks back to a love affair she had with a woman during World War II. While working in a factory, a young Foon is chosen by Wan, the wife of a wealthy man, to be a maid in her home. Foon initially falls for a local man, but eventually strikes up a relationship with Wan that is compromised by the war.
