Why Showing Golf’s Major Tournaments Can Be a Swinging Success for Your Business

First, we saw Rory McIlroy bring home the Green Jacket at The Masters. Then Aaron Rai became the first Englishman to win the PGA Championship since 1919.

And there are still two majors to go.

There’s nothing in sports like golf’s four major tournaments. They’re historic. They’re full of action. And, if you play the right club, they can be an ace for your sports bar or restaurant. DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS® makes it easy to show all four major tournaments along with year-round golf programming, all within one unified viewing experience.

They Call Them Majors for a Reason

Golf’s biggest moments mean more eyes are on the screen.

Overall, in 2025, the PGA saw a 22% increase in its viewership for weekend broadcasts, averaging 2.3 million viewers for its Saturday and Sunday broadcasts. And then there were the majors. Here are the average final round viewership numbers for the 2025 majors:

  • The Masters: 12.7 million viewers

  • U.S. Open: 5.4 million viewers

  • PGA Championship: 4.8 million viewers

  • The Open Championship: 4.1 million viewers

And 2026 has seen these numbers continue to hit the green.

The final round of the 2026 Masters was the most-watched in 11 years, with an average of nearly 14 million viewers, and a peak of more than 20 million, tuned in to watch Rory McIlroy win his second-straight Green Jacket. The second major of the year, the PGA Championship, had an average of 5.8 million viewers and a peak of more than 8 million watching the final round. That’s a 21% increase from last year.

These are the kinds of numbers a business can build around. And DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS can give you the clubs you need to give this growing audience a place to gather and enjoy the action.

Major Tournament Tee Times

For DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS customers, showing the four major tournaments is the equivalent of a tap-in putt: it’s easy.

The Masters

The first major of the year, The Masters is played at historic Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, typically the first full week of April. This year’s Masters tournament was April 9-12, 2026, and Rory McIlroy won his second-straight Green Jacket.

The PGA Championship

Played every May, The PGA Championship is the only major exclusively for professional players. The tournament has been awarding the Wanamaker Trophy to its champion since 1916 and, this year, Aaron Rai added it to his collection.

The U.S. Open

The 126th U.S. Open will be played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., June 18–21, 2026. J.J. Spaun won the 2025 U.S. Open, his first major title. Tune in this year to see if he can defend his title.
