Get and troubleshoot the DIRECTV App on Samsung TVs

How to get the DIRECTV App on your Samsung TV.

Ready to start watching the DIRECTV App on your Samsung TV? First, make sure your Samsung TV (full model list) has software version 3.0 or higher.

After you register and connect your Samsung Smart TV to the internet, add the DIRECTV App. For detailed info, check out Samsung set up.

Heads Up:

  • You’ll need version 5.0.82 or higher of the DIRECTV App for Live TV.
  • The DIRECTV App on Samsung TV works when connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
  • Turn on auto-updates: Go to Apps > Settings – below the storage bar, make sure Auto-Update is turned On for automatic updates.
  • If you get an “insufficient storage space” message, make sure at least 100MB is available on your TV for updates. Go to Apps > Settings and delete unused apps.

Install the app with your remote control:

  1. Press Home to open the Samsung Smart Hub.
  2. Enter DIRECTV in the Search box.
  3. Choose DIRECTV, then Install.
  4. Select the app to open it.

 

General Issues
  • Close and reopen the DIRECTV App.
  • Check your TV for software updates.
  • Uninstall and then reinstall the DIRECTV App.
  • Restart your TV
Network Issues
  1. Make sure your TV is connected to your home network.
  2. On your TV, select Settings, and then Network.
  3. Choose Network Status. You’ll see images of your TV, router, and internet as they connect in that order. Look for 3 dots between the images to show you’re connected.
  4. If you see an X, you’ve lost your connection.

Software Issues

If you can’t upgrade the DIRECTV App on your Samsung TV, follow the instructions below in order.

To upgrade and enable auto-update:

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Navigate to Apps and select Settings (top-right corner or bottom of the page).
  3. Scroll to and highlight the DIRECTV App.
  4. Select View Details.
  5. Select the Update Now option.
  6. Press the Home button on your remote.
  7. Navigate to Apps and select Settings (top-right corner or bottom of the page).
  8. Select Auto Update to turn it on.

To re-install the app:

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Navigate to Apps and select Settings (top-right corner or bottom of the page).
  3. Scroll to and highlight the DIRECTV App.
  4. Select Resintall.

To un-install and re-install the app:

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Navigate to Apps and select Settings (top-right corner or bottom of the page).
  3. Find and highlight the DIRECTV App, then select Delete.
  4. Confirm by selecting Delete to confirm.
  5. From the Home screen, navigate to Apps and select Search in the top-right corner.
  6. Type DIRECTV, select the app from the results, and select Install.
  7. Press the Home button to return to the home screen and launch the DIRECTV App.

Note: You may be prompted to sign in to the Samsung App Store with your Samsung user ID and password before updating or re-installing the app.
