Get detailed info from Apple support about how to set up your Apple TV.

First, make sure your Apple TV is running tvOS 10 or higher. Then:
  1. Go to the App Store.
  2. Search for and choose DIRECTV STREAM.
  3. Select Get for free. If prompted, enter your  Apple ID password.

Important: When you set up your DIRECTV STREAM device at home, that location becomes the residential, non-mobile internet network associated with your device. This is called your home Wi-Fi network.  Accessing the DIRECTV STREAM app on your Apple TV will also be limited to your Home Wi-Fi network. You can change your home Wi-Fi network up to 4 times within a 12-month period by relocating your DIRECTV STREAM device.

Check for updates

Apple TV automatically updates DIRECTV STREAM app when new versions are available. If you disabled automatic updates:
  1. Go to the App Store.
  2. Find DIRECTV STREAM to check for available updates.
