What to know about parental controls

With DIRECTV parental controls, you can:

Limit TV watching times
Set spending limits for DIRECTV Movies or live Pay Per View events
Block shows and channels based on ratings or parental preference
Check the ratings for movies and shows to see if they're OK for your child to watch (to see a rating, select a program, choose info, and scroll down)

Heads up: DIRECTV parental controls don't work on third party streaming apps. If you use apps, like SHOWTIME or HBO Max^TM, set up parental controls separately.

Also, parental controls don't carry to directv.com or the DIRECTV App. Set the parental controls on each platform your family uses.

Set up parental controls with your remote

It's easy to enable parental controls with your remote.

Press MENU on your remote.
Choose Settings or Settings & Help (varies by receiver type).
Select Parental Controls and follow the prompts to review or edit your settings.
Select Lock Now and enter your PIN.

Set up parental controls for directv.com and the DIRECTV App

On directv.com

Sign in to your DIRECTV account.
Select Profile.
Select Manage next to Parental controls & privacy.
Choose Enable Settings and follow the prompts to set them up.

On the DIRECTV App

Open app on a smartphone or tablet.
Go to Settings > Preferences. (Gear icon opens Settings)
Select Parental Controls and toggle ON or OFF.
Enter your 4-digit PIN.
Set Restrictions by ratings for Movies, TV Shows, and Unrated titles.

Heads up: After 5 failed PIN attempts in the app, access is locked. Your sign in password is required to unlock.
