Get help with DIRECTV error code 775
If you see error code 775, your DIRECTV receiver is having trouble communicating with your satellite dish.
Here's what to do when you encounter error code 775
Has your equipment moved, or is it in an RV?
In an RV (or a non-permanent location)
- We can try troubleshooting, but RV setups may require help from an RV dealer/installer if the issue continues.
My equipment is not in an RV
- Have you recently moved your TV, receiver, or DIRECTV equipment to a different room?
- If so, moving it back to the previous location often restores service. If you want to keep it in the new location, you may need a technician visit.
- If you haven't moved the equipment, continue to the next step.
Locate your SWiM Power Inserter
- You'll need to locate your SWiM Power Inserter before we continue. It's usually near where the satellite cable enters your home (closet, basement, structured wiring panel), behind the TV, or near the receiver.
- How to identify it:

- It's a small black or gray box, about the size of a small brick.
- Two coax cables (twist-on cables) connect to it.
- One coax port is typically labeled SWM (or similar).
- Often labeled SWM ODU Only.
- The power cord may have a green sticker that says Do Not Disconnect.
If you're not sure you've found the right device, keep looking until you see two coax cables (twist-on cable) connected to it.
Verify all connections (4 locations)
- Make sure the connections are snug (finger-tight) in all these locations:
- SWiM Power Inserter coax connection #1.
- SWiM Power Inserter coax connection #2.
- On your receiver, the SAT-IN coax connection.
- At the wall plate where the coax connection cable comes out of the wall.
- Check to see if this fixed the error. If not, continue to the next step.
Unplug the SWiM Power Inserter
- Unplug the SWiM Power Inserter from the power outlet and wait until the green light fully fades out.
- It's important to wait for the light to fully fade out which can take up to 30 seconds.
- Once the light is off completely, move to the next step.
Plug in and restart the SWiM Power Inserter
- Plug the SWiM Power Inserter back in, and wait 30 seconds for it to restart.
- Check the green light is back on and steady.
- If the light is on and steady, check your TV to see if the error is gone.
- If the light doesn't return to steady green, continue to the next step.
Outlet troubleshooting
- Power issues are common with error code 775, they these quick checks.
- If the SWiM Power Inserter is plugged into a power strip, try plugging it directly into a wall outlet.
- If the SWiM Power Inserter is already pulled directly into a wall outlet try a different nearby outlet.
- Avoid outlets controlled by a wall switch as the SWiM Power Inserter must stay powered on.
- If switching outlets fixes the error, the original outlet or strip may be faulty.
