SDTV connection options

You can connect your receiver to an SDTV using an RCA composite cable or a coaxial cable. If you have an HDMI or green, blue, and red RCA cable, learn how to connect a receiver to an HDTV.

Connect with an RCA composite cable (recommended)

Use this option only for standard-definition video and stereo audio (not Dolby Digital).
  1. Plug the yellow, white, and red ends of your RCA cable into the matching A/V output ports on the back of your receiver.
  2. Plug the other ends of the cable into the corresponding A/V input ports on your TV.

  3. Turn on your TV and receiver.
  4. Set your TV channel to 3 or 4 with your TV remote (not your DIRECTV remote). These 2 channels receive the DIRECTV service signal.
  5. Make sure you select the correct TV input source.

Connect with a coaxial cable

This option supports standard-definition video and mono audio.
  1. Plug one end of the coaxial cable into the port on the back of your receiver.
  2. Plug the other end of the cable into the port on your TV.
  3. Turn on your TV and receiver.
  4. Set your TV channel to 3 or 4 with your TV remote (not your DIRECTV remote). These 2 channels receive the DIRECTV service signal.
