Get help with DIRECTV error 721

If error 721 displays, you don’t subscribe to the channel you’re trying to watch - or you may need to refresh your receiver.

Check package and refresh service

You get a 721 error code if:
  • The channel you’re trying to watch isn’t included in your subscription package
  • Your receiver isn’t getting the program info for this channel

Check your package

Check your channel lineup for your package. If the channel isn’t included, learn how to upgrade your package or add a premium channel.

Refresh your service and restart receiver

If you subscribe to the channel and the error still displays, refreshing your receiver may fix it by reauthorizing your service. If you manage your DIRECTV account at, follow the instructions below. If you manage your DIRECTV account with a myAT&T user ID, sign in here to refresh service.

Refresh your service at
  1. Go to My Account.
  2. Select My Equipment to see the receivers for your account.
  3. Select Refresh receiver next to the impacted receiver. 
Heads up: Please allow five minutes after refreshing your service before restarting a receiver.

Restart your receiver

Press the red button on the side of your receiver to restart it. On some receivers, the red button may be on the front panel inside the access card door.
  1. Unplug your receiver's power cord from the electrical outlet, wait 15 seconds, and plug it back in.
  2. Press the power button on the front of the receiver and wait for your receiver to restart.
  3. Refresh your service again, if necessary.
