1. ‘BARBIE’ (2023) (NEW!)

Rating: PG-13
Genre: Comedy
Cast: Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, Ryan Gosling
Director: Greta Gerwig

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie didn’t become the ninth fastest film to make one billion dollars at the box office for no reason. Not only is the film a joy to watch, with its fantastic fashion and pink plastic world, but it also does a fantastic job balancing satiric meta commentary about our world with sweet moments and humor anyone can laugh about. The stellar cast and their insane chemistry make this film a treat for anyone, all the time.

Everyone should go to Barbie Land, you won’t regret it.

2. ‘PAST LIVES’ (2023)

Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance; Drama
Cast: Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, John Magaro
Director: Celine Song

The reviews for Past Lives have been overwhelmingly positive and is being referred to by multiple critics as a top movie you do not want to miss. Celine Song’s debut film takes a story we all know – the feeling of finding your first love, and then losing it – and turns it into something deeper and more profound than we ever thought it could be.

The chemistry between the lead characters brings Song’s masterful storytelling and direction to life in a way that other romance movies often miss.

A common story of love told in a way we’ve never experienced before.

Rating: PG
Genre: Kids & Family; Action/Adventure; Comedy
Cast: Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, Brady Noon
Director: Jeff Rowe

For those who have watched the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies in the past, the latest installment is sure to be a hit. Even if you aren’t familiar with the previous films, this addition to the franchise is an enjoyable watch. With two of the funniest film writers of the 21st century, Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg, it’s no surprise that the humor in this movie can make everyone laugh, from kids to parents and everyone in between. Not to mention, it also has heartfelt moments and lessons any watcher can take away.

You don’t need to be a kid to enjoy these teenage turtles.

Rating: R
Genre: Romance; Comedy
Cast: Uma Thurman, Nicholas Galitzine, Taylor Zakhar
Director: Matthew Lopez

This romantic comedy has taken the world by storm – so much so fans are demanding more. The film, based on the 2019 novel of the same name, follows two young men, a British Prince and the President of the United States’ son, as they navigate the world of politics and their relationship to each other. Will their love survive the pressure?

The film can get pretty cheesy, but the overall consensus is this is a cheesy film worth watching. Keep in mind the R rating, though. The film isn’t targeted at kids, despite the seemingly innocent plot.

A heartfelt romantic comedy you can watch time and time again.

Rating: R
Comedy; Drama
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tobias Menzies, Michaela Watkins
Nicole Holofcener

Produced by A24, You Hurt My Feelings is a sharp and engaging dramedy that draws viewers in from start to finish. Louis-Dreyfus’ expert wit and Holofcener’s knack for knowing just how to rile her characters – and audience – up, makes for an almost too relatable story.

After overhearing her husband’s honest – and lukewarm – opinion of Beth’s (Louis-Dreyfus) first-ever novel, she must grapple with doubts she has worked hard to ignore in her day to day. All the while, tiny crises are happening to every character, building up the energy we love to see from Holofcener.

The perfect film for a date night at home on the couch!

6. ‘LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT’ (2023) (NEW!)

Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance; Drama
Cast: Haley Lu Richardson, Ben Hardy, Rob Delaney
Director: Vanessa Caswill

This romantic dramedy starts where all the best love stories seem to begin: the airport (at least in the movies, anyway). And while the plot of the film may be a bit cliche, the two leads are charming and draw audiences into their world, even just for a little while. This might not go on your favorite movies of all-time list, but it is a worthwhile watch for a relaxing night in.

A sweet film for a low-key date night at home.

7. ‘ASTEROID CITY’ (2023)

Genre: Comedy; Drama
Cast: Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks
Director: Wes Anderson

For fans of Wes Anderson movies like Moonrise Kingdom and Grand Budapest Hotel, Asteroid City is bound to be a hit for you. Like much of his other work, this story is about relationships between people in times of crisis (in this case, an alien invasion) will leave you thinking about the human condition and just how little we really know.

The film is about a play called ‘Asteroid City,’ named after the town in which the play is set, which makes it all pretty meta. If that’s your thing, this is the movie for you.

8. ‘ELEMENTAL’ (2023)

Rating: PG
Kids and Family; Comedy
Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, Shila Ommi
Peter Sohn

The latest Disney and Pixar film didn’t make waves at the box office, but that doesn’t mean Elemental isn’t worth the watch. The story follows Ember who lives in Element City, along with other elements. After meeting Wade, Ember starts to look at the world differently. After all, big things happen when fire meets water. The story hits on the ever-changing nature of cities and the importance of accepting others, making it a good watch for kids and parents.

For fans of ‘Inside Out,’ this Pixar film will become a new classic.

9. ‘TALK TO ME’ (2023) (NEW!)

Rating: R
Genre: Horror Mystery; Thriller
Cast: Sophie Wilde, Miranda Otto, Zoe Terakes, Chris Alosio
Director: Danny Philippou, Michael Philippou

We’d be the first to tell you that horror movies can be a hit or miss. This A24 horror film, however, is certainly a hit for fans of the genre. The movie follows a group of friends who find themselves wading into the spirit world until one friend goes too deep and unleashes the unimaginable. Watching Talk to Me is “unsettling fun,” according to one reviewer, partly due to the impressive performances of the cast and the insanely effective effects and storyline.

Worth the watch, if you don’t mind sleeping with one eye open.

10. ‘NO HARD FEELINGS’ (2023)

Rating: R
Genre: Comedy
Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Andrew Bath Feldman, Laura Benanti
Director: Gene Stupnitsky

Calling all Jennifer Lawrence fans! This raunchy comedy is actually less raunchy than expected for an R rated comedy and follows a somewhat predictable story line. Despite that, however, Lawrence’s physical comedy and impeccable timing, combined with her on screen chemistry between her and Feldman, make for an enjoyable watch.

A fun watch that isn’t trying to be something it’s not.

11. ‘JOHN WICK CHAPTER 4’ (2023)

Rating: R
Genre: Action
Cast: Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard
Director: Chad Stahelski

The fourth installment of the John Wick franchise has proven that there can never be enough Keanu Reeves. For nearly three hours, viewers are immersed in Wick’s fight against new and more dangerous enemies than ever before, and for the most part, fans have enjoyed the show.

And with more danger certainly comes more bloodshed, as shootouts and brawls take up a fair amount of Wick’s time during the film.

Keanu fans won’t want to miss what could be the last ‘John Wick’ installment.

12. ‘THE FLASH’ (2023)

Rating: PG-13
Action; Adventure
Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle
Andy Mushietta

This DC installment tries to take the idea of the multiverse and encapsulate it into a 2.5-hour film, which isn’t easy to do. The film follows as Barry works to save the world he knows from disappearing forever after going back in time to change the past. Beyond the relatively complicated storyline, though, is strong character development and a mix of different DC elements.

A complicated plot balanced by surprising emotional depth and of course, nostalgia.

Rating: PG
Genre: Kids and Family; Action
Cast: Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae
Director: Joaquim Dos Santos; Kemp Powers; Justin K. Thompson

Miles Morales is back and better than ever, and the some of the other Multiverse Spider-Man’s are, too. Watch as Miles and Gwen Stacy enter the Multiverse to save the world (worlds?) against a villain more powerful than they’ve ever faced before.

This Oscar-winning series is a great watch for kids and adults alike, much in part due to the amazing animation styles and universal themes that everyone can relate to.

This sequel is worth the watch for its animation style, score, and its new take on an old story.

14. ‘CREED III’ (2023)

Rating: PG-13
Drama; Action; Sports
Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors
Michael B. Jordan

The third installment of the Creed spin-off features another strong performance from Jordan as Adonis Creed, the now mega-successful boxer. Of course, things don’t stay comfortable for long, as a childhood friend and boxing savant threatens to overtake Creed as the best boxer in the ring. The film features strong performances from the cast and delivers an emotional punch, to say the least.

Fans of Rocky won’t be disappointed by this spin-off’s performance.

15. ‘SISU’ (2022)

Rating: R
Genre: Action; War
Cast: Jorma Tommila, Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan
Director: Jalmari Helander

Originally released in Finland in 2022, Sisu has since taken the U.S. by storm after landing on available streaming services. Another war film, this time set during the final days of WWII, a solitary miner is confronted by Nazis and must do what it takes to get back the gold they stole from him.

The film itself is full of violence and gore, but the story runs much deeper than that. The Finnish word, Sisu, doesn’t translate to English, but this movie is much more a story about courage, determination and standing by your morals.

An authentic movie about courage and sisu with breathtaking scenery all around.

Rating: R
Genre: War; Drama
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Dar Salim, Antony Starr
Director: Guy Ritchie

The Covenant follows the story of a U.S. Army sergeant and their Afghan translator as they fight against the Taliban. Guy Ritchie’s storytelling – with the help of impressive performances from Gyllenhaal and others – leaves audiences grappling with questions around what sacrifice, friendship and courage really mean during wartime, and the bond that remains long after you’re out of the line of fire.

An emotionally gripping tale with excellent performances, this war story has a lot to offer, even to those who don’t love action.

Genre: Fantasy; Action Adventure; Comedy
Cast: Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Rejé-Jean Page
Director: Jonathan M. Goldstein; John Francis Daley

A playful and exciting film, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves takes the roleplaying game and brings it to life. An unlikely group comes together to form a campaign in search of a lost relic, unaware of just how difficult the journey may be.

You’ll be completely submersed in a fantasy world, making it nearly impossible not to laugh, cry and breathe a sigh of relief right alongside the characters.

An action-adventure movie for anyone – whether you’ve played D&D or not!

Genre: Sci-fi; Action; Adventure
Cast: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista
Director: James Gunn

Marvel fanatic or not, the Guardians trilogy has something for everyone. Volume 3 of the series dives deeper into the past of one our favorite misfits: Rocket the Racoon. As the group races against the clock to save one of their own – and the entire galaxy – viewers get to see a more emotional side to many of the characters that before have only been for comic relief.

It’s not easy to end such an innovative and unlikely trilogy in a way that leaves viewers content, but director Gunn made it work, and then some.

Come for the humor and stellar soundtrack, stay for the rollercoaster of emotions that come with it.

Rating: PG-13
Genre: Sci-fi; Action; Fantasy
Cast: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver
Director: James Cameron

After 13 years of anticipation, the sequel to Avatar has finally made it to our screens at home. The story also takes place a decade after the original and follows the Sully family as they fight against the odds to stay a family – and more importantly – alive. While the plot of the movie may be lacking in some areas, the beauty and creativity of the world around the story mostly makes up for it.

A beautiful world to immerse yourself in for 3 hours.

Rating: PG
Genre: Kids/Family; Comedy; Animation
Cast: Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black
Director: Aaron Horvath; Michael Jelenic
