What Upcoming Sporting Events Will Be in 4K?
There are 4K sports on DIRECTV nearly every day, but five events top the list this July. Let’s take a look:
New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox – July 7 – 8
The greatest rivalry in the sport reconvenes for the 2022 edition. The Yankees currently lead the majors in wins and enjoy a stunning 13-game cushion over the second-place Red Sox. But the Red Sox are no doubt dreaming of a legendary comeback to capture the AL East. In any event, they need to maintain a steady clip the second half of the season as they battle divisional rivals Toronto and Tampa Bay for a wild card spot.
WHO YOU GONNA CALL? MEET SOME OF MLB’S GREATEST PLAYERS, THE GOATBUSTERS.
The British Open – July 14 – 17
The Old Course at St. Andrews on the northeast coast of Scotland is considered by many to be the cradle of golf. The sport was first played there in the 15th century. The Open Championship returns to St. Andrews to commemorate its 150th anniversary. Teeing off on Thursday, July 14th, the 2022 edition of the British Open, as it is colloquially called, will surely be a grand slam to remember. Three-time winner Tiger Woods has declared his intention to play at St. Andrews, where he won twice before. Rory McIlroy is on a hot streak and will enter the fray as the tournament favorite. Last year’s champion Collin Morikawa, along with Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka will all be in the mix next week. Don’t miss the final major of the year.
MLB All-Star Game – July 19
Whoever your favorite player is, chances are they’ll take the field at Dodger Stadium in sunny Los Angeles. All the stars will be out in Tinseltown, including Pete Alonso, Ronald Acuna Jr., Willson Contreras, and Mookie Betts from the National League, and Aaron Judge, Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Vlad Guerrero Jr. from the American League. On the mound you could see Justin Verlander, Alek Manoah, Shane McClanahan, and Emmanuel Clase from the American League, and Tony Gonsolin, Corbin Burnes, Julio Urias, and Josh Hader from the National League. Tune in the stars go head-to-head.
San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – July 22 and 24
Last year the Giants won 107 games to win the National League West. The Dodgers finished second with 106 wins, the most wins ever by a team that did not win its division. The Giants have won three world series titles in the last 12 years, while the Dodgers triumphed in 2020 after making consecutive trips to the fall classic in 2017 and 2018. This year they are again battling for supremacy in the NL West, and failing, one of three wild card bids.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Boston Red Sox – July 29 – 31
These two storied franchises haven’t played since 2017. Since then, the Brewers have won the National League Central twice in four seasons, while the Red Sox won their fourth world series this century in 2018. Milwaukee is again atop the NL Central division, vying once more to join the playoff hunt for an elusive world series title. The Red Sox are poised for a wild card berth, sitting 13 games behind the torrid New York Yankees. But they are just one and two games ahead of division rivals Toronto and Tampa Bay. There will be a lot on the line when these two inter-league foes face off later this month.
