PHOENIX SUNS HISTORY
The Phoenix Suns were established in 1968 as an expansion team and are now part of the Pacific Division. The Suns had some tough seasons in the early years, but that began to change when the team reached the post season for 13 consecutive years from 1988-2001. The Suns appeared in the NBA Finals in 1976, 1993 and 2021.
Although they have yet to win an NBA title, the Suns have rostered 11 Hall of Fame players, including Charles Barkley, Steve Nash, and Jason Kidd. They play their home games at Footprint Center, located in Phoenix, Arizona.
PHOENIX SUNS LOGO
Over the team’s 56 seasons, there have been a few different logos to represent the Suns. From 1968 to 1991, a logo created by Stan Fabe was used. It depicted a yellow basketball with sunrays on an orange background, with the team’s name above and below the imagery. The design represents the push to new heights and the radiance of the game and victory.
In 1992, there was a major redesign of the logo; it still represented the sun with a basketball with rays around it, but this time on a purple background with a “sun burst” behind the ball. The team’s name was moved below the imagery.
In 2000, there were some minor adjustments to the logo, often referred to as the “fiery bird” logo. The last change took place in 2013, which modernized the logo and changed the color scheme to include black, rather than purple.
