The Philadelphia Flyers were founded in 1967 and are part of the Metropolitan Division. In 1966, team co-owner Bill Putnam held a contest to name the Philadelphia expansion team. “Quakers” and “Ramblers” — names of previous Philadelphia hockey teams — were two of the main contenders. But the team ultimately went a different direction when co-owner Ed Snider’s sister, Phyllis, came up with the name Philadelphia Flyers. She also helped design the team’s logo. The Flyers play their home games at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
