The Minnesota Timberwolves were established in 1989 and are part of the Northwest Division. In 1994, the team nearly relocated from Minneapolis to New Orleans when its owners put the Timberwolves up for sale. After a New Orleans group almost purchased the team, businessman and former Minnesota State Senator Glen Taylor bought the team and kept it in Minnesota.
