The Edmonton Oilers were founded in 1971 and were originally a founding member of the World Hockey Association (WHA). After the WHA was dissolved, the Oilers, along with three other former WHA teams, joined the NHL in 1979.

The Oilers have made the NHL playoffs a total of 25 times over the course of 43 seasons. They have clinched five Stanley Cup championships, in 1984, 85, 87, 88 and 1990 and have appeared in two other Cup finals, in 1983 and 2006.

Since 2006, the team fell off a bit and were unable to make it to the playoffs for the next 10 seasons. In 2023 the team ended the year with a 50-23-9 record, but unfortunately lost in the Conference Semi-Finals.

The Edmonton Oilers looked promising during the 2023 preseason and are working to stay focused on the games ahead. Over the past few seasons, the Edmonton Oilers have had visible improvements to its team roster and the way players perform on the ice. With a heavy focus on defense and keeping pucks out of the team’s net, they are hoping to be able to take home the Pacific Division title this season.
