Week 6 featured a plethora of plays that registered on the Richter Scale, ranging from Saquon Barkley peeling off defenders on a catch and run in a loss to the Eagles…
…to JuJu Smith-Schuster pinning a catch against the helmet of a Bengals cornerback.
Despite those two outstanding plays, we have to hand this week’s Did You See That?! game ball to the dynamic duo of Brock Osweiler and Albert Wilson. Yes, you read that correctly, but Wilson should get most of the credit.
Ryan Tannehill’s surprise scratch left journeyman Osweiler, now on his fifth team in four seasons, under center against the NFL’s currently most imposing defense. Rather than taking a step back to a .500 record, Osweiler and Wilson stepped up and dragged the Dolphins across the finish line.
Entering the fourth quarter, Miami was knotted up with Chicago at 21. Osweiler’s final box score numbers belie his impact. Osweiler was playing above his weight, but he’d already surrendered two interceptions in three quarters and was liable to commit another error against the Bears ravenous defense.
Wilson was the catalyst for Miami’s fourth quarter, bookending the period with a pair of touchdowns. On 3rd down early in the fourth, Wilson found his groove turning a screen pass thrown behind the line of scrimmage into a 43-yard catch and run score.
His second touchdown came at an even more critical juncture. On 1st and 10 from the 25, the Dolphins lined up in an empty backfield with five eligible receivers, including tight end Nick O’Leary. While the play called for Miami’s other four receivers to run deeper routes behind the first down marker, Wilson sat down at five yards and Osweiler put the ball right on Wilson’s chest. Wilson turned and sprinted right, just before turning upfield into an alley between four converging defenders.
Where a mere mortal would have been stopped following a 10-yard gain, which would’ve advanced Miami to their own 35, Wilson squirted out near the 40 and quickly recovered his balance after nearly getting tripped up by an arm tackle. Bears safety Eddie Jackson closed in with an opportunity to corral Wilson. However, Wilson shifted gears, changed direction and sped right through a flailing Jackson’s tackle as if he was the traffic cop in a Fast and Furious installment.

Once Wilson hit the open field and activated the flux capacitor, the tarmac was clear for Miami’s DeLorean receiver to reach his top speeds. The final 40-yard dash was a bullet train straight to the end zone. Wilson’s game-tying score was a break the Dolphins needed on an afternoon where they found themselves without their franchise quarterback. In overtime, Miami outlasted Chicago to improve their record to 4-2, tied with the Pats atop of the AFC East.
Wilson’s 14.57 yards after catch per reception this season ranks first in the NFL and it’s not a fluke either. Wilson was second in that category in 2017, during his final season as a Kansas City Chief. Unfortunately, the acquisition of Sammy Watkins and the aforementioned Tyreek Hill’s ascendance left him as the odd man out. Miami found themselves with a vacuum left in the slot by the departed Jarvis Landry and Wilson has filled in and even outperformed their former receiver’s impact at a fraction of the price tag. Did we mention you should pick up Wilson on your fantasy team?
Slot receivers typically are expected to create yardage after the catch, but Wilson has been in rare air lately with his consistent ability get up field. After the game, Wilson anointed himself as the NFL’s best YAC receiver and he may have a case. Especially after last week’s Did You See That?! winner Curtis Samuel failed to duplicate his insane YAC performance — or even register any yards at all.
To cap off a landmark day and ridiculous 4th quarter for Wilson, he got the call from Primetime himself…
And surprise, surprise. Wilson was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week…
All in a day’s work. Not a bad Sunday afternoon for Mr. Wilson.
