How will the Detroit Red Wings fare in the upcoming NHL season? After multiple years spent rebuilding the team, fans are hoping the 2023-2024 season is the one where that hard work comes to fruition. But will that be the case? Check out the 2023-2024 Detroit Red Wings schedule, roster and more below to see what the team is up against.
DETROIT RED WINGS HISTORY
As one of the “Original Six,” the Detroit Red Wings have long been a foundational part of the NHL. Founded in 1926 as the Detroit Cougars, the team went through several name changes until they landed on the Red Wings in 1932.
Nearly 100 years later, Detroit has won the most Stanley Cup championships (11) of any United States team and the third most in the NHL behind the Montreal Canadiens (24) and Toronto Maple Leafs (13). The team’s winning streak has been stuck for the last decade or so, as their last appearance in the Stanley Cup was in 2009. The last time the team made it to the playoffs was 2016, where they were knocked out in the first round.
The team has been slowly, but surely rebuilding itself into the championship team they once were. Could this year be the year they get back on top? Fans are hoping they can at least clinch a wild card spot in the playoffs.
