COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS HISTORY
The Columbus Blue Jackets were founded in 2000 and have since been part of the Metropolitan Division. The team’s name honors Ohio’s prominent role in the Civil War; the state of Ohio sent the most soldiers per capita to the Union Army. As it turns out, their alternate logo is actually a cannon. Additionally, many of the blue coats worn by Union Army soldiers were manufactured in Columbus.
Despite having a team name with so much history, the Blue Jackets are a relatively new team for the NHL in the grand scheme of things. The team has made the playoffs a total of six times in their 22 seasons, with five of those playoff appearances taking place in the last ten seasons. The last time the team made it to the post season playoffs was in 2020.
The Blue Jackets play their home games in the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
