CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS HISTORY
The Chicago Blackhawks were founded in 1926 as part of the “Original Six,” the first teams in the NHL. The Blackhawks, who were founded by Chicago-based businessman Frederic McLaughlin, have won six Stanley Cup championships.
During the 2010s, the team nearly became a dynasty, as they took home three Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013 and 2015. During that era, they also reached the conference finals in 2009, 2014 and 2017.
It’s in part because of that iconic era that the Blackhawk’s performance has been somewhat stagnant after 2017. The team had a number of aging players, as well as issues with injuries and the salary cap. The Blackhawks missed the playoffs for three consecutive years from 2018-2020. The team has also had its fair share of controversy, especially around its coaching staff and management practices.
The Blackhawks play at the United Center on the Near West Side of Chicago, Illinois. The United Center is also home to the Chicago Bulls of the NBA.
