BOSTON CELTICS HISTORY

The Boston Celtics were established in 1946 and have since become one of the most decorated teams in the NBA. The Celtics were charter members of the Basketball Association of America, a forerunner to the NBA.

One of the league’s most storied franchises, the Celtics have won 17 championships, matching the Lakers for the most in NBA history. Eleven of those 17 championships took place over the course of just 13 years, from 1956 to 1969. The team’s remaining championships happened in 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986 and 2008.

Despite not having won a championship since 2008, the Celtics have continued to be an extremely competitive team in the Atlantic Division and the NBA as a whole. Statistically, the team has been one of the best over the course of the last four seasons, but they have still been unable to clinch another championship.

They play their home games at TD Garden, located in Boston, Massachusetts.

BOSTON CELTICS LOGO

Boston Celtics Current Laprechaun LogoSince the Celtics were founded in 1946, the team’s logo has reflected the team’s, and Boston’s, Irish heritage. Originally the logo displayed a white shamrock against a green circle with “Celtics” around the top leaf.

It wasn’t until the 60s that the team redesigned their logo into what would become the foundation for today’s logo: the iconic image of a leprechaun – known as Lucky – spinning a basketball on its finger. Since the 60s, the logo has remained largely the same, getting modernized and tweaked over the years.
