Buffalo Soldiers

They were the unknown army...gathered by the military after the civil war to engage in campaigns against hostile uprisings by Native Americans on the plains and across the southwest. They captured horse and cattle thieves, built roads and protected the stage coaches and wagon trains, all while contending with challenging terrain, inadequate supplies and discrimination. These were the regiments of African American men known as Buffalo Soldiers.
