and now we're proud to announce our latest development, the DIRECTV®
Digital Satellite Recorder. The DIRECTV Recorder has all the same
features as the DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo -- but with a new name!
Below are several common frequently asked questions about the DIRECTV
Digital Video Recording (DVR) service and DIRECTV®

How is the DIRECTV® Digital Satellite Recorder
different from the DIRECTV® Receiver with TiVo®?
We simply strengthened our partnership with TiVo®,
the leader in digital video recording to give you better entertainment
under a new name-DIRECTV® Digital Video Recording
powered by TiVo. Now, DIRECTV will be bringing DIRECTV
DVR service directly to you. You'll still have access to the same
exclusive TiVo features such as Season Pass recordings, WishList searches,
Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down and TiVo Suggestions.
Given this change in relationship, your DVR subscription is being transferred from TiVo to DIRECTV. Effective 10/31/02, your service and privacy agreements with TiVo will be superceded and replaced with new service and privacy agreements with DIRECTV.
We understand how important personal privacy is to you, so please be assured that DIRECTV is committed to continuing its protection of the privacy of your personal information.
Do I need to upgrade my DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo?
No. The functionality of your DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo and your current
TiVo service will not be affected in any way and you'll continue
to experience the same quality service you've come to enjoy.
My TiVo recorder is separate from my DIRECTV Receiver. Does this
change affect me?
No, this change does not apply to stand-alone TiVo recorders. You will continue to pay your monthly
bill directly to TiVo for the TiVo service and to DIRECTV for your DIRECTV
programming services.
How much does the new DIRECTV DVR service cost?
The subscription fee for DIRECTV DVR service is now $4.99 per month and is waived
for all TOTAL CHOICE® PREMIER package customers.
The DIRECTV DVR service is free of charge to TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER
package customers as long as they maintain their TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER
package status. If you downgrade to a package other than TOTAL CHOICE
PREMIER, a $4.99 monthly fee will apply.
How much is the DIRECTV DVR service if I have more than one DIRECTV
Recorder?
The DIRECTV DVR service fee for each additional DIRECTV
Recorder unit is included in the $4.99 DIRECTV monthly fee for each
additional receiver*. If you subscribe to the TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER package, your DIRECTV DVR service is free, no matter how many receivers you have.
*Television programming fee for each additional receiver is $4.99/mo. if all receivers continuously connected to the same land-based phone line.
What happens to my Product Lifetime TiVo subscription?
If you have already purchased a product lifetime subscription, you will continue
to receive the DIRECTV DVR service uninterrupted. After September
25, new product lifetime service subscriptions will no longer be
offered.
I have an annual commitment. How is that affected?
This plan has been discontinued. If you made an annual payment for TiVo service,
DIRECTV will credit you for the remaining month(s) balance of your
paid annual subscription and will move you to monthly billing at
the new lower rate of $4.99 per month.
Will there be changes to my monthly bill?
Yes. By November 1, you should see the reduced service charge to appear on your upcoming
statement as "DIRECTV DVR service".
